SOMETHING. IT'S ALWAYS BETTER THAN NOTHING.

We have a little bit of good news on the job front!

Last week - Someone told Tim about a job that their boss was interviewing for and Tim applied.

Monday - Tim was called to schedule an interview.

Tuesday - He was told at the start of the interview that the job was his if he wanted it.

Wednesday - His background check cleared.

Today - He signed papers to start working.

Tomorrow - He spends some time with his boss, meeting people and visiting the work site.

Monday (maybe/hopefully) - He'll start work.

Now, before you get all giddy, let me say that this is a very part-time, entry level job that he is phenomenally over-qualified for and will not support us.

Let me also say that we are so grateful!  Beggars can't be choosers, and we are definitely beggars these days.  Every little bit helps and this job will either pay a portion of our mortgage or several smaller bills.  Progress!

Tim will be working four afternoons a week in an after-school program at an alternative school that serves middle and high school students.

The blessings?   It's local, which means our gas bill won't go up much and he won't be spending time in a gnarly commute. (He can't ride a bike, as part of the job involves transporting food.)  It's a school district job, which means he'll have a foot in the door for future jobs that could support our family.  His boss asked the district to increase the pay by a couple of dollars, as he's over-qualified, and they agreed.   His boss realizes he needs a better job and understands that he would have to quit this one if something better came along.  He will still be available for subbing full days one day a week and partial days the rest of the week.

We are still so far from being able to support ourselves, but this is a step in the right direction and such an encouragement to my weary heart.  The friend who told us about the job said they felt so bad because they know Tim is qualified for so much more, but as I told them, no one is too good for any type of work.   You do what you need to do until you can do what you want to do.

The icing on the cake?  They asked him to sub at a different school this afternoon (I'm assuming it's another after-school program) when he was in the office to sign papers this morning.  That means he'll have 2 1/2 hours of paid work today!
