6/21/22 - WORTH REPEATING

Everything we say at funerals should be said at birthday parties instead. We leave so much love unspoken.

As I've defined it many times, faith is acting like God is telling the truth. Or another way, acting like it is so, even when it's not so, in order that it might be so, simply because God said so.

As we have stated so often, faith is measured by your feet, not by your feelings. Your feelings are the caboose, your movement is the engine.

Why is it so much easier to be unkind when you can't see the person? Herein, I think, lies the answer: when we speak unkindly to someone's face, we can see hurt. We can see pain. But our devices take that connection, that physical connection, and break it off so that we can no longer see a person's eyes fill with tears or the red climbing into their cheeks. We have lost the ability to be ashamed of ourselves for these comments, and I think that in this, we are losing the ability to communicate with each other as a whole.

GIRL TIME WITH NAOMI

The W guys headed out to nature early yesterday evening and won't be home until late tonight, so Naomi and I had some girl time.

Last night we watched our first Facebook live wedding ever, got a cozy fire burning, she popped brownies in the oven, I was delegated to make whipped cream, candle was lit, jams were put on, watched The King of Random while working on a puzzle, streamed Princess Kauilani (neither of us had seen it before) on Kanopy through our library, and stayed up chatting until 3:30 in the morning.

Proof I'm super mature.

Proof Naomi's super goofy.

We slept half the day away, then headed out for a bike ride this afternoon. We'd decided yesterday that we'd go, but ended up riding farther than originally planned. Just over seven miles of fresh air and sunshine! We crossed the freeway twice, once on Butteville road (facing north) ...

... and again on Hwy. 214 (facing south).

I'd told her she could paint my nails last night, but we never got around to it. So our post-ride relaxation time included some nail polish on the front lawn. I think painting toenails is a way of drawing attention to one of the ugliest parts of a body, but I love Naomi more than I dislike painting my toenails. Way more. Having blue polish helps.

She's looking so grown up lately!

Back into jams. Another free Kanopy movie - The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio this time (I saw it over ten years ago, she never had).  Salads for dinner because we had brownies for lunch.

Such a fun time with this girl of mine!

JUST SOME FAMILY TIME

Tim and Silas both had Friday off work and the kids had the whole week off school, so we had a productive, but mellow, day together. One of the goals for the day was for Tim and I to find some firewood storage racks and tools. Mission accomplished, thanks to our trusty GW Hardware, but the indoor rack was out of stock and had to be ordered. He and Tyler put the outdoor rack together, then he and I loaded it up with wood so I wouldn't have to be grumpy anymore about our back porch turning into a firewood dumping ground.

That evening was the first Family Fun Friday in a while that all 6 Ws were home, so we used it as a chance to kick off the Christmas season. I had a free Redbox movie and there weren't any new movies that would have worked for our whole family, so we opted for Elf. We've seen it several times, but it's a classic we all enjoy. Then we sweetened the night literally and figuratively with some peppermint ice cream I got for dirt cheap with some rewards I had at Safeway. Pretty great way to spend the evening!

The group disbanded a bit after the movie and dessert so we could all do various things, but Devon, Naomi, Tyler, and I eventually ended up playing Sorry! together. I'm not sure why we don't have a picture of Tyler, but Naomi snacked on junky chips we never have in the house.

Devon finally fulfilled his wish of eating sugar cane (which he ended up being disappointed with).

I hid.

But then I cooperated.

Nothing spectacular, but it was a good day.

JUST A MELLOW SUNDAY

Four Ws had a church event to attend yesterday afternoon, so I bumped our regular afternoon nap out a bit to make a couple stops with Tyler. My goal was to spend a gift card at the outlets, but it appears the local store went out of business. I'll have to visit another location later. Since we were already at the outlets, I gave Tyler the option of looking around a little bit. He chose to walk through Nike and a new store with clothing for various athletic teams (can't remember the name), as well as spend a few minutes in the treehouse. I opted to pop in at Eddie Bauer to see if there's anything I wanted to use a coupon for and Tyler tried on this hat while we were there.

Next stop was Fazoli's for cinnamon swirl breadstick bites because I thought a cheap treat would be fun to share. Turned out I also had a free slice of cheesecake with any purchase on my rewards, so we got two desserts and split them. Score! As we waited for our food, I mentioned the silly pictures Tim and I have taken there. Tyler was confident he could do a better straight face than Tim, so we struck a serious pose.

Then we had to smile, of course.

Back home to rest for a bit, then he wanted to take pictures with and of each other. I snuck in rabbit ears, which he thought was hilarious.

The other Ws and Natie all showed up a while later, so we had a mellow evening spent eating leftovers (as we do every Sunday), watching one of the Thou Shalt Laugh movies (the first of five), and just hanging out. At one point Natie gave Naomi a lesson on French braiding, a skill Naomi's just started to learn.

Perhaps not the most flattering angle for a picture, but it was a moment of real life I wanted to capture.

RANDOM PICTURES: JANUARY - MARCH

I recently realized there are a bunch of pictures I've either shared only on Facebook or not posted anywhere at all the last several months. It's time to get the blog caught up! I'll do the random pictures from January through March today, then April through June on a different day.

JANUARY

1/10 - I looked down on the kitchen counter and discovered Devon had struck again. So funny!

1/14 - Devon didn't like math last school year. Not at all. So I took a picture with him in his suffering.

Suffering, I tell ya. The smile was brought to his face by the poem he wrote that day entitled "Math Sucks".

1/17 - It had never happened before, but somehow we ended up with a math fest in my room. Two kids on my bed and one on the floor to my side.

1/15 - "Red and yellow, black and white" may not have referred to lip color, but Naomi didn't care.

1/19 - The end cap kids, a future firefighter (or at least what we thought he'd be at the time) and his little brother, setting stuff on fire in the yard. But not before the older gave the younger a lesson in fire safety.

1/18 - It was crazy hat & hair bowling night for the grade schoolers at church.  Gabi and Tyler participated, Naomi and Devon helped. Naomi stuck a ton of pipe cleaner in her hair to look like fireworks. Devon put his hair in pigtails. Tyler wore a coonskin hat. Tim usually helps, but was unavailable that night, so Gabi snagged the famous turtle hat Tim usually wears for the occasion.

1/19 - Naomi finished reading Anne of Green Gables, so I introduced her to the movie.

1/22 - She wasn't feeling well and chose to konk out in my bed during down time.

1/26 - Devon and Gabi made a bunch of pancakes for us.

1/27 - Devon and Luke played a chess game by phone, telling each other which moved they made and adjusting their boards accordingly.

FEBRUARY

2/6 - Tyler made some Nantucket cranberry pie for dessert.

2/8 - We bought several bags of fun chips we'd never eaten before from Wheeler Dealer and had a chip sampling party for Family Fun Friday.

2/18 - Silas and Devon each spent time wrestling Gabi and Tyler.

Naomi sat outside to soak up a little bit of winter sunshine later that afternoon.

2/20 - Tyler decided my bed was the perfect place to read a school book.

Later on he and I played several rounds of Pyramath. He decided to sneak in a silly face when I took a picture.

So I did the same thing back to him on the next shot.

Then we were silly together.

Finally, two smiling faces.

2/27 - Snow day!

Followed by some crafts.

MARCH

3/2 - Nothing beats a Saturday morning when you get to sleep in and head to Miranda's for pan dulce and doughnuts for breakfast.

Gabi and Tyler are such goofballs!

Me and my sweet girl.

3/6 - Snuggling one of Natie's brothers.

3/10 - Just enjoying the sunshine.

Maria came over with homemade tortillas and a bunch of peppers, we provided the rest of the ingredients, then she made a ton of enchiladas for our families to eat at dinner. So delicious!

3/14 - Because Devon can't just have an ordinary stack of bills.

3/18 - Tyler and Silas spent a bunch of time working on Silas' car together.

Naomi has no need to turn on an overhead light if she can color while wearing a headlamp.

Devon earned his first Benjamin. He knows it would be tacky to tell people about it himself, but, as a mom, it was fun to see his excitement.

3/19 - I looked over at the whiteboard and noticed Devon had taken a break from his math homework to turn the letters from dollar words into faces.

3/23 - Enjoying a day of working in the yard with the family.

3/25 - Devon and Tyler pushed two chairs together so they could be close to each other while doing their own things.

3/26 - I took Naomi to DSW for the first time. She fell in love immediately and had me take a picture to send our friend Pam, her fellow shoe lover.
