I don't know if he was feeling an unusual amount of spontaneity last night or what, but he took the plunge. Before you look at the pics, let me tell you that this was my first mohawk ... so it's a little crooked. And I took too much off the front. Just don't hold it against Silas, all right? He likes how it looks, so I'm off the hook, but I definitely know what I'll do differently next time.
One more thing. Some of you have already told me that your sons want mohawks, but you won't do it. Here's my thought, for whatever it's worth - let them do it! It's just hair, for cryin' out loud. If it's being done with a rebellious attitude, then you obviously need to deal with the rebellion. Otherwise, let your kids have some freedom to choose their own hairstyle. It's temporary, they'll have fun, you'll laugh at the pictures twenty years from now, and you'll score some major "cool mom" points. Or don't. We'll like you anyway.
Now, here are the pics.
Thursday night - before the clippers hit the head.
Thursday night - After the clippers hit the head and with the hair picked out to a frohawk.
Friday morning - Using some product to keep the curls intact.

You did a great job, I like it! And I agree with you about letting your children choose their own hairstyles. It is just hair and like you said, it makes for great family memories later on. I will never forget my mom's reaction when my brother was in 10th grade and he came back from a football tournament with his hair with a military style cut. His head had been practically shaved. She was shocked, but to her credit, she held her tongue.
Ironically enough, my brother ended up being a career Air Force man so we haven't seen him with anything other than short, shaved hair forever.
SO COOL! I agree with you mama--it is just hair.
Awesome! The third picture looks so cool...whatever you used worked great. Glad he likes it...and yep, I agree too. I'd rather have my kid expressing himself through hair than rebelling in some important life-changing area because I wouldn't let him express himself through hair.
If my oldest child wanted a mowhawk, I, as a wise parent, would let my oldest child have the freedom to choose her own hairstyle. It's temporary, she'd have fun. However, I would NOT laugh at the pictures twenty years from now. I'll be dead from old age by then. But I would laugh my head off today. As the loving parent I am, I would drop everything I'm doing RIGHT NOW, grab my barber clippers, jump into my pickup, drive to her house, and cut her hair into a beautiful mowhawk before the sun sets tonight. That's what I would do, for cryin' out loud.
Thanks Dad. It's good to know you have your parenting priorites in line. :)
Love it! He's the perfect age to try out a new 'do :)
Did I say he looked good? My dd walked in and started talking to me and I don't know if I was done typing.
Too much cleaning today!
Ha... my other commment got lost somewhere...
What I did say first was that we did that to my oldest son last year. His blond hair and serious colic in front didn't make for a very good one though.
Dad, I would also hop on a plane to witness you giving your oldest child a mohawk!
Berth, I agree, it's just hair, except it's the opposite problem in our house... here I'm the one going, 'come on Daisy, let me give you chunky highlights!!' and they all want long straight 'mild' hair like all their Asian friends!!
Beep & Dad - Let me get this straight. If I say I want a mohawk, then you'll both show up for it? Cause I could justify lying about the issue if it meant my sister hopped on an international flight. :)
I LOVE it!! :) He's got the perfect face and hair for it. I can't wait to see it at church tomorrow!
Wow, that's awesome! Nice job, Bethany!
It looks great! And you are the coolest mom, ever.
