Folks, I'm about to flip my lid. Seriously. I am so incredibly frustrated right now and I'm just going to vent. If you want a happy post, then come back another day.
I'm sick of people who ...
... routinely whine, complain, and get offended about everything.
... take disagreement as a personal attack.
... choose to complain about something, but offer no helpful alternatives.
... tell you what they don't like about you and expect you to say nothing in response.
... find ways to turn perfectly happy situations into pity parties.
... get offended by something you've done or said, then completely ignore your apology.
... expect the world to revolve around their own thoughts, beliefs, feelings, experiences, etc.
I'm really over it. Majorly.
I've thought about typing all that out multiple times, but always opted not to because I didn't see how it would help. It just gets me all riled up.
But here's the deal. I'm finding myself becoming so bitter ... maybe critical ... no, it's more like spiteful toward people who do these things. I don't know, maybe it's all three of those feelings. I've lost respect for people who act these ways. Each incident, whether it involved me or someone else, just brings to mind all the previous ones. I go from calm and happy to annoyed and snarky in no time flat. I hate it.
I need to accept that some people would rather pick a fight and bail than work through one. I need to accept that some people are chronically offended. I need to accept that some people are uncomfortable with disagreement. I need to accept that some people want to speak their mind, but don't want to listen to anyone else's. I need to accept that some people make accusations without any supporting evidence.
I need to let it go. I keep thinking I have, then a new situation comes up and I realize I'm still hanging on to the old ones.
You can pray for my attitude. It's lousy. You can pray for my heart. It's unforgiving.

hey Bethany - that stinks. Praying that the Lord will be the lifter of your head and a shield about you - that He will give you joy in the midst of other peoples' junk.
And btw, I meant to PM you w/this, but here is a perfect place for it - I LOVE your SL thread to share compliments and that you made a rule that ppl had to come up w/someone new. Usually it's a lovefest for a few, and lots of others feel left out. Great job!
and while I'm here, I might as well make this a long comment - Naomi and her parkul have come up in conversations w/my girls daily since you shared the pic :D
praying for you -
Liesl
Praying for you Bethany.
I don't want to just be parroting Liesl, but I really enjoyed your compliment thread. Thanks. And thanks for the rules, I really appreciate that. I need to compliment, but I've not had a chance to read through and see who I can choose.
Bethany -
Why let the enemy rob you of your joy? You were probably responsible for putting smiles on people's faces. Maybe it was their pick up they needed to face the day?! Just because some rules were broken - maybe that specific person needed to hear all these things!? I used to get hurt when no one mentioned me - but I am reminded constantly that Christ loved me soooo much that He stretched out His arms and died - just so that I can live. Also I'm reassured that no mountain, sea, nothing will separate me from His love. :) I'm happy to see all these people get loved on.
AAAhhhhh Bethany....
THIS is the part that stuck out to me...

It's hard. Just plain ol' hard.
I pray that you will find the ability to forgive through Christ. 'Cause that's the only way...and yes, I'm speaking from experience.
Abrazos....
I love that type what everyone else is thinking! Venting is completely necessary sometimes....
What helps me is to remember that God loves them as much as He loves me, He died for them as much as He died for me, and He has called me to love them. When I put on His love, I see them through His eyes and I see people in bondage and people who need to hear how much He loves them. I also had a thought the other day, if I approach people with grace set before me...like looking through grace colored glasses...I purpose to forgive them before they even say anything and love them in spite of what may occur.
Wish I could say I do it always and have it down, but it does get easier with time. A friend of mine once told me that when dealing with complainers, all they want is their feelings validated. So you say "wow, that must be really upsetting"...validate the way they feel but don't feed the beast. My experiment with that was eye opening...

Liesl - You've got to be one of the sweetest people ever. And, unrelated to your sweetness, maybe your girls need some "parkul".
Kelly - You're naturally an encourager. I know you'll find someone to compliment.
Maryanne - I haven't copyrighted the term. Feel free to use it. :)
Joy - That situation is what pushed me over the edge, but there are several others that I've let snowball in my mind. I still love that thread. I posted it, then bailed. So, it was fun to come back from Bible study last night and read it!
Faith - I totally agree that it's going to be a God thing. I know some would say I need to be more aware of my own flaws and worry less about others, but that's the thing. I'm more than aware of a gazillion areas that I'm falling short. My attitude toward people who do the stuff I listed is just one more area where I'm failing. I find that behavior frustrating, but my own response is what's concerning me.
Kami - You vent. I vent. We all vent. :)
Julie - I see your name all over the place, but I'm not sure if I've actually met you. Now that we're FB friends I need to go look at your pics to connect a name with a face. :)
I particularly like what you said here - if I approach people with grace set before me...like looking through grace colored glasses...I purpose to forgive them before they even say anything and love them in spite of what may occur.
"We command you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to withdraw from everyone who walks disorderly and who routinely whines and who gets offended about everything and who takes disagreement as a personal attack and who isn't thankful on Thursday."
- II Thessalonians 3:6
Dad - Thank you for consistently making me laugh. :)
Bethany, can I just thank you for saying the things that I always want to say but am afraid to say because someone might be offended?! Isn't it crazy?! It almost seems like people have gotten worse than junior high. Aren't we adults now and isn't the childish stuff supposed to be over with? Anyway, thank you for your honesty and your transparency. You're an amazing woman and I'm so sorry that you're getting 'picked on'. I don't have anything profoundly spiritual to add... mostly because I know how I feel when I'm in this situation and I don't exactly feel like being very forgiving. :) Hang in there~
