I love Naomi's fluffy hair and usually leave it as is. Once or twice a week we'll put it in braids or pigtails, just for kicks. It's getting long, though, and after a couple days of being left in a little fro it gets pretty matted in the back. Not very cute.
Lately I've been conditioning and combing it so that it's controlled ringlets and not so matted, but I have no desire to do that every day. I tried doing multiple braids on Saturday night, but I felt a little out of my element as a white mom of a "black" girl. Ok, she's not black and her hair isn't super coarse and kinky, but it's still way more curly than any other white kid we know. It seems to be the only place her black genes came shining through.
So, a couple days ago I sent an e-mail to an acquaintance who is black and asked for some tips. I was hoping for an e-mail back that would give me some ideas. Instead, I got an in-home visit today, including some tips on cleaning and styling, reassurance that I'm not totally botching Naomi's hair, and a bag filled with a bunch of hair stuff for the Nomes.
How cool is that?! I was totally blessed!!
The fringe benefit is that the hair oil smells wonderful!! I don't know if Naomi considers the fact that I've been sniffing her head all day to be a benefit, but she'll get used to it.

My friend Emma has REALLY curly hair but not a curl she's in love with. So she uses Paul Mitchell Round Trip (LIQUID CULR DEFINER) and not a ton of it. She takes fairly big sections of semi-wet, conditioned hair and twists them tightly out to the tip. And lets the twists hang down to dry. She only washes it about once a week for lack of time but if she doesn't disturb the scalp area, it looks beautiful all week!

That is so sweet of her!
Oh how nice of her! Now we need pictures :)
useless without pictures you know that!
What? No Pictures of the finished hair? I want to see... guess we'll see you tonight. :)
Julie - Thanks for the tip!
Everybody else - Her hair wasn't looking particularly amazing yesterday, as we did more talking than styling. She has cute, puffy pigtails today though. :)
What a nice thing for your acquaintance to do! Of course we need pictures.
